“This blog belongs to my sister Angie. Maybe in the past she deserved this award, but her last post was in Februrary, so now I am not so sure. I pass on this award in the hopes that she will start writing again. Get to it Angie!”
So, since my son is home from school sick today, AGAIN, I will take this opportunity to catch up a bit.
Before I get starting on the 'catching up' bit , though, I’d like to comment on the whole ‘sick kid’ thing. Don’t you hate it when you are not sure if you should keep them home or not? Yesterday Roan was clearly sick. He had a fever and spent the day on the couch. He still had a fever when he went to bed last night. Now, technically, according to the school, the child is supposed to be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. So by that rule no school today. But since he’d already missed one day of school (and me a day of work) I had pretty much decided that if he woke up without a fever and felt fine, I’d let him go. However, he still had a bit of fever this morning (close to 100*) so I kept him home and called in to work again. Now, he’s bouncing around all over the place, asking to play the Wii. *Sigh*
See, the reason trying to make this decision torments me is because, once when Kai was in 2nd grade, he said he wasn’t feeling well. He didn’t have a fever or any other symptoms. Sometimes kids wake up on the wrong side of the bed but perk up once they get to school. I told him to go to school and see how he does. If he’s really not feeling well, they can call me and I’ll come get him. I never got a call, so I felt I’d made the right choice. However, when I picked him up from school, just one look at him shuffling to the car and I knew something was not right. His teacher came over and told me that he had been miserable all day and spent the day on the couch in her classroom. I asked why they didn’t call me to come get him and she said the nurse wouldn’t call me because he didn’t have a fever! I was so mad; I wondered how much he learned that day from the teacher’s couch.
So, now I just make the best decision I can based on the info I have and deal with it. Right now, I'm again wondering if I made the right choice keeping Roan home. By school rules, yes. But.....did I mention he wants to play the Wii? Does that sound like a sick kid to you?
